Proper Application of Makeup:
Foundation, Concealer, & Powder
How to properly apply foundation, concealer & powder makeup can be a tricky thing to get right.
To begin with, look at all the options available to you. You have an overwhelming number of cosmetic companies producing these products, each with a variety of formulations i.e. oil-free, water based, with sunscreen etc., and a variety of formats
i.e.. liquid, compact, stick, and powder.
Then, along with the product options come color choices and trying to determine which is best suited to you skin. As if making a single product choice wasn't tough enough, comes the application. Even the best suited product to your skin can look pretty unappealing if applied poorly.
When it comes to choosing make-up and how to apply make-up such as these, we will start with the first step: consider your own needs. Although there may be varied opinion among the pros on what makeup is applied first and technique in it's application, I think your own needs will shape the choices you make and experience is truly the best teacher.
I think that for most
individuals, foundation first followed by concealer, is the most
aesthetic and practical way to go. Once you have applied your
foundation, you can then assess what, if any other coverage is
necessary.
When you apply
in this sequence you tend to use less makeup...and less is truly more
(in most cases). You also avoid the annoyance of the foundation
application wiping away the concealer.
Powder follows
if the rest of your makeup application is powder based i.e.. powder blush,
bronzer, eye makeup etc. If you like the moist look of cream blush or
bronzer, then these would precede dusting with powder.
Loose translucent powder is
the most versatile choice. There are a number of options in powder, but
I do think that the best form is Loose Translucent powder. When it
comes to how to apply makeup like powder, loose powder provides the most
control and range of powder finishes i.e. sheer, light weight and
slightly matte to opaque, heavy coverage and very matte.
